We Need to Be Openly Materialistic
With hardware capabilities advancing by leaps and bounds, and costs getting more attractive all the time, 3D printing has more momentum than ever. But, as Tim Heller, Director of HP 3D Printing, Americas, explains in his new LinkedIn post, realizing 3D printing’s potential still hinges on one critical thing: an open approach materials:
“Now of course, every vendor would love to sell both the machines and the materials. Like the old adage about giving away razors and selling proprietary blades for them, everyone knows that’s how you make the most money with many products. So most hope to offer materials that will be proprietary to their own machines. That simply won’t enable a faster market adoption for 3D printing.”
Check out the post to read Tim’s point of view on the path forward.
