Organizing Your Physical and Virtual Desktop

The state of that flat surface around your computer says a lot about you, according to a study from Hunch.com – which found that those with organized desks “tend to be more tech-savvy” and are 5 percent more likely to put their personal and social life first. Where do you fit in? And what are some good tips for making your messy desk (and PC's desktop) a little less cluttered? Keep reading for some great tips

Will Guild Wars 2 Run on an HP Ultrabook?

If that is all you wanted to know, yes, Guild Wars 2 could run right now on an Ultrabook that had 4GB of RAM and a 2nd-generation Intel Core Processor. I did it on an ENVY 14 Spectre, and I’ll show you the proof in this post in a few. Now, if you wanted more details like… “What’s the big deal about Guild Wars 2, anyway?” and “What are some recommended configurations for when you set it up on your machine?” then keep reading.

What Kids (and HP Parents) Say About Our PCs

If you have a child, you probably at some point take the tyke to work. Y’know, whether it’s to show off your offspring – or explain what you do for a living. When you’re a nerd and work at a place like HP, it’s a little different for HP’s Take Our Children to Work Day. We get that extra bit of awesome because we’re sharing the cool tech that we create with our kids. Besides this event being good practice for my own pending paternity, I wanted to share my recent experiences from a day of demos here in the Bay Area and talk about what they thought of our gear.

HP’s Latest Gaming-Grade PCs Appearing at E3

When people hear “Gaming PC,” they think “Super-expensive monolith.” I feel like I’m preaching to the choir here at TheNextBench – you guys know that these days, that’s not the case. PC gamers can get a great experience from mainstream gaming desktops like HP’s Pavilion HPE Phoenix, on the go with a Pavilion dv7, an ENVY Ultrabook 6…or even on a huge touchscreen computer like the TouchSmart 520. This coming Tuesday, we’re demoing a number of these units at the HP table at Showstoppers during E3...

How to Upgrade the HPE Phoenix

I took the HPE Phoenix for a couple quick tests and it performed pretty well. However, a couple questions kept popping up both in my head and in the forums: How tough is this thing to upgrade? How far can you really take the Phoenix?  Why would I need to upgrade the graphics in this machine? Can my giant-sausage fingers fit inside this tight case? All fair questions…..that I'm about to answer with a quick video....

A Closer Look at HP’s Gaming Rigs

I know that I talk a good game, but I’ve finally had more time to continue playing with a couple gaming-grade PCs in HP’s arsenal. I’m talking the Pavilion HPE Phoenix desktop and latest ENVY 17 laptop. Now that I’ve got these tricked-out rigs in my possession, I wanted to give a little straight talk – nerd-to-nerd. I’m going to dive a little deeper into each case, the loadouts that I have and the kind of performance you can get out of these guys.

Microsoft Takes Flight Feb 29

Microsoft’s seminal flight sim is back – and soon. We’re talking the end of this month. If you ask people – even ones that don’t consider themselves “gamers” – Microsoft’s Flight Simulator series is one of those classic PC apps. That’s partly because of the degree of realism in control; largely because the games have looked so dang pretty. After 29 years, Flight Simulator X was the last of the series in 2009. End of the story? Not quite. As of this morning, it has a new name and departure date: Microsoft Flight taxis down the runway come February 29th.

HP @ CES: A Photoblog

The annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is kind of a nerdy mess. THOUSANDS of people swarm in to show off the tech trends for the new year. It’s a lot of sights and sounds to absorb if you're not ready for it. Well, there are parts of it that the press gets up-close-and-personal in a much more manageable ballroom - as opposed to running all around Vegas. Well, I wanted to share a couple pictures that I took during the Digital Experience and Showstoppers events that HP demoed over the past few nights. Then, I wanted to share a couple other things that we did during the show. But, really, CES 2012 was all about the ENVY 14 Spectre.
