A Trophy Year for HP’s Computers

You know a good design when you see it. Whether it’s a product that works better, looks better or just effortless you use, you can spot brilliance. Well, one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world thought that highly of HP’s latest computers, giving nods to both the ENVY x2 hybrid PC and the sleek SpectreONE all-in-one desktop for excellence in design.

What’s The Difference Between Intel 2nd- and 3rd-Gen Core Ultrabooks?

There’s something under the hood that a couple of you guys on the boards have been asking about – measuring the physical performance jump between the two latest generations of Core CPUs. In short, you wanted to see up-close-and-personal what the difference would be between Intel’s 2nd and 3rd gen Core processors in our Ultrabook offerings. So, I decided to grab two of our units that offered the same RAM (4GB), same speedy SSD….the only big difference being the CPU.

Will Guild Wars 2 Run on an HP Ultrabook?

If that is all you wanted to know, yes, Guild Wars 2 could run right now on an Ultrabook that had 4GB of RAM and a 2nd-generation Intel Core Processor. I did it on an ENVY 14 Spectre, and I’ll show you the proof in this post in a few. Now, if you wanted more details like… “What’s the big deal about Guild Wars 2, anyway?” and “What are some recommended configurations for when you set it up on your machine?” then keep reading.

Mod Your ENVY 14 Spectre Laptop Sleeve

I’ll admit, after I chatted with Jenni Radosevich, I got into more of a DIY mindset. Here’s my problem: I’m more of the modder type, goofing around with computer cases and such – not exactly a needlepoint pro. Besides, the ENVY 14 Spectre already comes with a neoprene case. I just want to jazz it up and make it uniquely mine. Want to follow along with my harebrained idea? Keep reading.

Jenni Radosevich’s DIY Spectre Ultrabook Case

For Jenni Radosevich, it started off kind of small. A natural born crafter, she was creating her own fashion sense while growing up in Wisconsin. Moving to NYC after college, though, is when it all kind of clicked. Now she’s rocking what someone called, “The Girl Next Door meets Lower-East Side Hipster” look while teaching the fashion world a thing or two about DIY at ISpyDIY.com. We tapped into her DIY-ness to see what she’d come up with for the fashion-forward ENVY 14 Spectre.

From Ultraportable to Ultrabook (and Beyond)

This week we’ve been looking at a very brief history of where we’ve been – and where we are going with Ultraportables. The definition – and expectations – of what we’d consider a small PC may have changed in a short period of time, but what we’re also seeing now is tech that is quickly catching up with our needs. The point of these stories is to catch you up to speed and get you thinking a little bit about what can happen next. For a brief summary of the stories in this series, keep reading.

From Ultraportable to Ultrabook – The Evolution of Thin/Light Laptops, Part 2

One of the cool things about working here at HP is that I always get to catch up with like-minded, awesomely nerdy guys from time to time.  (I mean that in the nicest, most sincere way possible – REALLY!) You go out for a shwerma and you come back with a cool little interview. I recently ran into John McCarthy, Product Manager for Premium Notebooks, and we had an interesting chat about where things are going in Ultrabook / Sleekbook space. Check it out!

From Ultraportable to Ultrabook – The Evolution of Thin/Light Laptops, Part 1

We’ve been chasing this dream of proper thin-and-light computing for ages. Doesn’t matter whether you call it an “Ultraportable” or these days an “Ultrabook,” the goal remained the same: A reasonably powerful portable experience with minimal sacrifices. Anyone remember the Pavilion dv2? I sure do! Keep reading for a quick look at the Ultraportable evolution and see where we are at now.

5 Things to Pack in Your Laptop Bag

I used to travel. A lot. While I might not be the jet-setting playboy anymore, that doesn’t stop me from making sure that I have all the necessary gear when leaving the house. So, whether you’re going someplace sweet for summer vacation or you want to be prepared for all eventualities on that next business trip, go with this quick pre-flight checklist. You can thank me later.

The new ENVY Ultrabook (and What’s a Sleekbook?)

If the Spectre and SpectreXT were some super-premium, extreme high-end Ferrari flavors of the Ultrabook, then that’d make the ENVY line the BMW…Slick in its own ways and still in a different class from what else you’ll see amongst Ultrabook devices. And then there’s the Sleekbook.  Aside from Marketingese, I was curious – what does all this even mean? Well, let’s get down to it as we take a quick look at these latest lightweight laptops: The ENVY 4 and ENVY 6The ENVY 4 and ENVY 6.

HP SpectreXT: The All-Aluminum Ultrabook Appears

Wasn’t so long ago, we were unveiling of the ENVY 14 Spectre. Its freaky all-glass design grabbed attention – and awards – at this year’s CES as the Ultrabook to beat. Well, the SpectreXT  is a brushed-metal eye catcher going for the same gusto: A stylish, slimmer (14.5 mm thin) and lighter(3.07 pound) Ultrabook. So I won’t be too offended if you just ogle the pictures and ignore what I write. (But you have to click through to see said pictures.)

Great, Geeky Mother’s Day Ideas

You love your mom all year long, but on one day in particular you show how her how much. Funny thing is you can do all sorts of stuff to celebrate. Lavish her with sweet gifts, do thoughtful things for her….and maybe even show your….geeky side? I know, it sounds crazy, but there are lots of great ways to create fun things for your mom with what you have sitting right in front of you. I’ve got a couple of suggestions for you right here.

A Quick Look at HP ENVY 14 Spectre

We revealed the ENVY 14 Spectre in January – and it won Best of CES 2012 for its awesome design. And tomorrow, you’ll be able to order a Spectre if you’re on the market for a premium ultrabook that stands out in a crowd. Truth be told, these laptops are a little in demand at that moment – but that ain’t stopping me. I was able to grab a prototype unit for an hour or two. So, of course, I decided to take it for a spin around town. Read on for a couple bits from my short, sweet test drive.

HP @ CES: A Photoblog

The annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is kind of a nerdy mess. THOUSANDS of people swarm in to show off the tech trends for the new year. It’s a lot of sights and sounds to absorb if you're not ready for it. Well, there are parts of it that the press gets up-close-and-personal in a much more manageable ballroom - as opposed to running all around Vegas. Well, I wanted to share a couple pictures that I took during the Digital Experience and Showstoppers events that HP demoed over the past few nights. Then, I wanted to share a couple other things that we did during the show. But, really, CES 2012 was all about the ENVY 14 Spectre.

CES: The Tech Behind Tiesto – and a Free Concert

A couple days ago, we officially announced that HP and Intel are sponsoring a concert featuring Tiesto. It’s a celebration of the HP ENVY 14 Spectre launch, the state of Ultrabooks….and, well, it’s CES in Vegas – always a good reason to party. But why am I mentioning this to you here on this blog? To remind you that tomorrow night, we’ll be streaming the concert live over Twitter.
