The Next Bench Story

Welcome Palm Employees & Community

Today, we’re excited to welcome the Palm team and its community of customers, developers and enthusiasts into the HP family.

We've already talked about the tremendous opportunities that will come from marrying Palm's award-winning intellectual property with HP's scale and financial strength. You can imagine the potential impact of turning the billion people who already use HP products worldwide into fans of webOS phones and mobile systems.

For me, what's equally exciting is the Palm team itself. Over the last couple of weeks, I've had the opportunity to personally meet a number of Palm employees, and I’ve been impressed with their passion for innovation, vision for the future and commitment to growing with HP.

I've also heard great stories about the Palm community's enthusiasm. And I recently met with Ben Galbraith and Dion Almaer from the Palm Developer Relations Team to discuss the opportunities that lie ahead for WebOS developers.

We're looking forward to the future. Please stay tuned to The Next Bench, our Twitter channels (@HP_PC, @palm) and Facebook pages (HP for Home, Palm) for updates.

I'm looking forward to a constellation of interconnected HP and webOS devices! (I'm hoping to start developing for webOS... real soon now!)

Phil, it sounds like you are just as excited as the Palm team is ... and that makes me excited. As a WebOS developer, I'm looking forward to what HP's plans are with the platform. One thing's for sure, HP gained a passionate community today.

Good morning and HELLO!!!

As one of the cheerleaders of the Palm WebOS community, I look forward to all the goodies HP/Palm will be coming up with.  From the latest in technology (Phones and Slates) to your original lines of PC and printers.  Please do not disappoint us, because I know what you are capable of.

Wow us with a marketing campaign that stops the others dead in their tracks.  On a separate note, where are the carrots?

we would like and update to get the guys and gals warmed up.

Thank you for the warm welcome into your family!

YAY!!!  I've been a loyal Palm fan for many years, I don't think you'll find a more loyal fan base than what Palm has grown over the years.  Keep up the good work and give us something to continue bragging about!!!

Dear HP,

As we all embark on this new journey together, I am really excited as to what this merger is going to bring to the table. New innovations, new hardware, and pushing the industry to new heights of what we expect these technologies to do. Palm is still an extremely powerful name in this industry, and with HP being behind them now, we are going to REALLY see what the Palm team is capable of.

I sincerely hope that the openness and strong sense of community sticks around in all of this as it is what we (the Palm community) love about it so much. We need to show the world what we are all about, and if we do...... its going to change the lives of many.

This is going to be huge. I know it.

Thank you for the warm welcome.  I've been a Palm fan for a number of years now, and was absolutely blown away when they unveiled the Pre (have one) and webOS.  My dream is for HP to let Palm continue its excellent product vision and developer relations, and provide the channels, marketing, and manpower for it to flourish.

I look forward to what this new future holds in store.  Glad to be along for the ride.

Dear customer,

Congratulations on your recent purchase of a "Palm, Inc." ! We sincerely hope you will enjoy your new acquisition.

While thinking of all possible ways you could use your new "Palm, Inc", please keep in mind the following pieces of advice:

-keep webOS simple and smart

-don't kill homebrew apps

-be nice to developers so developers will love you

-expand the reach of paid webOS apps ! 8 countries is not enough, and it's frustrating to lots of users

-work on the autonomy of future mobile devices. This is the #1 issue with Pre users.

-don't disappoint the palm community :smileyhappy:

If you follow these simple guidelines, your new "palm, Inc" will give you years of reliable service !

Good luck, Palm/HP.  I've been a very happy owner of a Palm Pre since September 2009.  WebOS is wonderful and I look forward to seeing it proliferate across many types of hardware.  Can't wait to see what's in store for the new Palm!

From all of us in the HP Slate community: since this deal was rumored to be the reason for the total blackout of Slate news, could you please now FINALLY TELL WHAT'S GOING ON WITH IT?!?!?!? Even if the news is that there's no hope for a useful Windows 7 slate, it's dead... just let us know already!

by Keith Sheehan(anon) on ‎07-01-2010 10:02 AM

Way back in 2001 I inherited my husbands Handspring Visor (which IIRC was running Palm software).  It finally crapped out in 2007 (-ish), and I knew I wanted another Palm device. At the time there were rumors of a Palm smartphone, but no date certain for release.  I traded down (way down) & bought a Palm Z100 just to manage my calendar & contacts.

I got my Palm Pre about 3 days after it was released & never looked back.  I run the risk in my circles of being a Pre Fan-gurl.  ;-)

WebOS is The Best!

HP + Palm = Bright Days Ahead.
