The world is coming to South Africa. Sure, most people’s minds are on the World Cup, but Cape Town is going to set the stage for another thing that concerns the continent – if not the whole planet: The Global Forum. Hosted by Fortune, Time and CNN, the event (June 26 - 28) will gather global leaders to discuss on issues and opportunities in the developing nations. It's where chairmen, presidents and CEOs sit side-by-side to feed off of and learn from each other.
Why HP's getting involved is obvious. People in Africa – and around the world for that matter – can benefit from smarter use of personal and enterprise technologies. That's why HP was honored to partner with Fortune and provide the technology powering the forum.
HP will provide HP Elitebooks, LD4200 Digital Signs, TouchSmarts and LaserJet printers to help show attendees. And they have partnered with Trellist, LLC to develop a touch version of the program guide. (You may or may not remember, but we profiled Trellist recently) With the handy app, attendees can easily access the program agenda, venue information, speaker information and bios as well as Time, CNN and Fortune- specific articles on the topics covered in the forum. (In case you weren't aware, Time magazine launched it's Time 100 application last year for Adobe AIR and optimized for HP TouchSmart computers. It’s actually pretty neat and you can find that here. Just imagine the sort of neat things the show attendees will be able to see).
All of these will be accessible with the touch of a finger on HP TouchSmarts that will be placed throughout the forum. Attendees will also have the option to email the articles they read on the TouchSmarts to themselves. And provided it doesn’t distract them too much during the conference, participants can get a live feed of World Cup 2010 news updates.
