HP Announces Chromebook with the Largest Screen on the Market

When you buy  a new computer, it’s all about choice. Well, today we’ve officially announced that along with our  extensive PC and workstation portfolio, we’re expanding our MultiOS approach and introducting the new HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook.

Our thought process behind this Chromebook is that you’re able to get a quick-and-easy gateway into your Google life on a great, big 14-inch BrightView display. That means it has  the largest-screen on a Chromebook to date, about two inches larger than the next-biggest competitor.  All at $329.99 and available now here in the U.S.

Powered by an Intel Celeron processor and Intel HD graphics, the Chromebook includes a 16 GB solid-state drive for faster start up times.  Extra hardware security via the built in Trusted Platform Module (TPM,) protects against unauthorized access to sensitive data and credentials – and makes it a perfect affordable choice for businesses that need to be nimble.

The Pavilion 14 Chromebook also provides a full array of ports including HDMI, USB 2.0, RJ-45 and a combination headphone and microphone jack. Essentially, HP’s latest Pavilion gives you a laptop-sized experience (and secure enough for the office) that runs on Chrome OS. All of this goes into a form factor that weighs just under four pounds and includes a removable battery.

With 100 GB of free storage on Google Drive, customers can access their content from any device, while at home or on the go.  With the Chrome Web Store, users can customize the Chromebook by downloading applications for work or play.

I’d love to hear what you think about our newest laptop - the Chromebook.

Will it boot off that USB port?

I am thinking about a first computer for my kids, and this is definately a contender. But I'd like for them to be able to run Sugar-on-a-Stick from a USB key, as well as the system's built-in OS.  (actually for schoolkid systems, a USB boot option is probably pretty important, whether they use SoaS or osmething else).  Not sure if TPM would break SoaS either...

Sorry for the delay, Lockharm. I am looking into this for you. Unfortunately, I haven't had any time with our Chromebook. Yet. Will keep you posted!
