A Toast to Opportunity

I’m excited about the future of HP’s PC business. For those few of you who might have missed it, HP announced Thursday that it’s exploring alternatives for its PC business which could include spinning off the business to public shareholders, selling it or keeping it inside HP.

The changes are meant to keep HP at the pinnacle of competitiveness in an industry where the only constant is change. I’m proud to be part of a company dedicated to success, even when that company has to make tough decisions.

I’m also one of thousands of employees and many partners who know we have a massive opportunity in the PC industry. Whether or not PSG takes a divergent path from HP, here are some interesting factoids:

• If PSG were a standalone business, it would be a Fortune 60 company. It ships more units, delivers more revenue and earns higher profit than any other PC company. 

• There is huge growth opportunity in emerging markets like India where computer penetration is 37 systems per 1,000 people. To put that into perspective, Gartner says there is nearly one computer for every person in the US.

• PSG has a proven track record for producing best-in-class systems. There are too many awards to list, but  WIRED naming the ENVY 14 the Computer of the Year is a highlight for me. PC Magazine gave the new TouchSmart 610 an Editor’s Choice. But that barely scratches the surface.

• PSG is led by some of the best brains in the industry, and we have tons of very passionate people who want to succeed. You’ll hear more about them in the near future.

Our competitors might say to send us flowers. I say bring on the champagne. I am proud of our successes to date, and bullish about the future. In the meantime, it’s all systems go for us. Manufacturing, support, sales and other operations remain in place and continue to function.

I hope so, I just bought two HP systems for a work BYOC program,  Maybe you can spin off as DEC or Compaq.

I love HP!  When I heard you were getting out of the PC biz, as it was stated in McDonalds, I said, "Say it's not so."  I now see you are joining forces with another comoany, and will be twice as powerful.  That's great, but will you keep the HP name?  I hope so.  I am a struggling writer, and have found HP products to be at the top of the line for me.  I graduated in May 2011, and my husband bought me a HP laptop for gradution.  We also have a desktop HP and a HP printer.  Thank you HP.  Marsha Rothrock rocker79ma@sbcglobal.net

thing is, companies like dell and lenovo sell most or all products in the uk aswell as us,

but hp dont seem to be be commited similarly and sell very few producs in the uk and those that they do sell are at a way higher price than in the us

its simple really, you cant be the world best pc manufacturer if you dont sell your products around the world

I have worked with Hp Tech Support, PSG is amazing and can fetch better rewards ..spinning it as a seperate unlisted entity would keep parent's balance sheet clean and we're still #1 PC sellers in the world with around 17.5% market share if apple is catching up and rest are eating up market share we need to roll out better products which can beat apple's Mac book and Dell's Inspiron a decent support team with aggressive selling in emerging and developed  markets is key to success

I was scared at first when I thought HP would quit the PC business entirely, as I consider myself a loyal HP customer and fan, and even before the acquisitions, I was already a fan of Compaq and Palm, so you have an idea. I always recommend HP over other brands to my friends. 

Having owned a LifeDrive and a Zire PDAs, a Presario notebook and a desktop, two Pavilion desktops, a Laserjet and two Deskjet printers, a Scanjet scanner, a HP fax, a Mini netbook, not to mention other peripherals (such as an official HP mouse pad... And the Aero Handheld PC, remember that one?), throughout the years, I am sure this very much reinforces my "HP fan" status. And, of course, I was very satisfied with all these products. 

The only thing that saddens me is the fact that probably the TouchPad will never arrive in my country... I thought it would be a great product for my needs. I hope HP keeps Palm and WebOS alive (and does not kill Compaq either). 

A toast to HP and its PSG operation! Keep up the great work! And the #1 position! Do not care what the #2 vendor says... It is just ENVY!

   I love HP since the beginning, I have probably a record on owning HPs in my house, printers laptops,speakers, PC desktop but never the tablet I was planning to buy one and look what happens, I do not like apple they think they are to powerful,no offense please, for the good future of this great nation I hope you guys know what you are doing, please keep up the good job. HP is seating in the top of the world do not change your name is like Mac Donald, you are part of the history of my country's, you have the best costumer service and the best computers, what else do you want? Love you guys!

I, too, am a loyal HP buyer. I currently have three HP printers, and one HP computer. In the past, I have had at least a dozen other HP computers, and I still have my HP-12C calculator (about 15 years old running THE SAME batteries.) 

I am now retired, but as a real estate agent, I had at least 5 HP desktops/laptops at a time and half a dozen printers. Please, please stay in the PC business. You make the best PC's available. I have had only a few problems, and they were solved rapidly either by replacement under the original or extended warranties that I have had. I also have never had a bad experience with customer phone support.

I plan to continue buying HP equipment as long as you continue to make it.

Glad you're not gonna disappear. i support your commercial grade of PC's and its really easy, especially with the restore disks. HP products are so reliable, I send my co-workers to discountpc.net to buy the commerecial grade corporate lease returns. I have not had one complaint about the reliability of the HP commercial grade  pc's even when they are 4-5 years old.
