Magic of Orlando at Graph Expo 2016

Each year, there is the excitement of fall trade shows and for print industry veterans who have experienced many successful events, the build-up is just as exciting as finally getting there. For Graph Expo 2016,

the excitement and anticipation also came with a new location and venue, Orlando and the Orange County Convention Center. Having driven past the convention center many times over the years during visits to the Magic Kingdom, I admit this was my first time stepping foot inside. While maybe not quite as exciting as the other entertainment options, it was truly magical to see the creative options that the industry presented in this new locale.



From the PageWide Web Press side of HP, we had a unique opportunity to bring one of the industry’s “rock stars” and his band to our booth to sign copies of their new book. Dr. Joe Webb, Wayne Peterson and RIT Professor Chris Bondy, aka, the Unsquaring the Wheel band, was a big hit appearing on the the HP stand every day of the show.


HP customer, Webcom, produced the books using the new HP One Book solution, with covers printed on HP Indigo and book blocks printed using HP PageWide Web Press. Embedded in each book are pages linked to the internet using HP’s Link Technology. To build the excitement around this book pre-show, we offered the first one hundred individuals a personalized copy of the book.


The print personalization is integrated with a personalized video for a full multimedia customer experience. I wish we could have recorded the reaction on people's faces when they saw HP PageWide Director of Marketing David Murphy addressing them by name on their smartphone.  Outside of that message, more serious comments from David, offering an in-depth look at the effects of digital print on the publishing industry, can be found in the September edition of BookBusiness.


Like the Magic of Orlando, I think Graph Expo 2016 also had its magic moments for HP and our customers offering special memories and insights into the latest digital printing solutions for today’s publishing applications.
