Graphics Card upgrade

I have 2 NVIDIA 8800gts video cards and am thinking about an upgrade, is three a single card would give me at a minimum the same performance as both in SLI mode? There are a few games soon to be released that I want to make sure I can run at max settings.  I can't afford a high end card like the 280 so while keeping the performance increase that I want what would your recommendation be for a single card to replace my 8800gts sli set up?

Re: Graphics Card upgrade

some of the new ATI solutions seems to be very nice without the heavy price tag...

Re: Graphics Card upgrade

Well I would get a 9800 gx2 if your not going to go for the 260 or 280, There down to ~$300 now.

Ati wronged me but good back in the days of pentium 3, I couldn't even get them to pick up the phone at there support center. I'll never buy one of there products again. So I would never recommend ati to anybody. (if you do get ati, I recommend getting it through a third party like sapphire or diamond that way if you have an issue you can get somebody to make it right)

Re: Graphics Card upgrade

I would look at either the GTX260 (they just re-launched the card), the ATi 4850X2 (I believe?), and maybe the 9800gx2 but I feel that card is dated to much and not worth the investment.

Are you having performance issues with your current setup?

No, but as I posted earlyer a few games are soon to be released Fallout 3 for example and I want to be able to run them will all the eye candy set to max and I want to be sure my PC can do that.

Why not wait to see if you need to upgrade? Prices might have come by that time.

I also think waiting is a better option because I think by that time the prices of the 280/260 or any other graphic cards most  likely would have gone down.

Re: Graphics Card upgrade

I am going to wait, I just want to know that the next single card I get is at a minimum better than my 2 8800gts in sli.
