Give new life to your old placemats. Embroider some lovely messages for your guests to enjoy when they come over. These little placemats would also make a sweet housewarming gift. Embroider a set of 4 and add to a little gift basket with pantry items! Perfect.
Fabric pencil (dark colored placemat: white pencil // light colored placemat: grey or yellow pencil)
Print out the embroidered placemat pattern. Tape the pattern onto a window. Decide where you’d like the embroidery to go on your placemat (I chose the lower-right side of my placemat) and tape the placemat over the pattern.
TIP #1: You can make your own word patterns for this project! Just type them out in the word document I have attached, print, and trace! You can even add shapes or designs if you’d like!
Use a fabric pencil to trace the word pattern onto the placemat.
TIP #2: Fabric pencils can be erased off most fabric, but I suggest testing a small section on the back of your placemat to see if it erases off the placemat.
Thread your embroidery floss onto your needle. Tie a knot at one end and follow the lines you just traced onto your placemat using a back stitch.
Here’s what a back stitch looks like above.
You’re done! Enjoy! I love how simple, yet stylish and easily customizable this project is!
If you make some placemats for at home or as gifts, we’d LOVE to see them! Please share your projects in our Idea Exchange! Maybe you embroider some tea towels instead of placemats? We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
