Alohomora 2014 - HP India Intern Day

Interns are important to Hewlett-Packard. In an ideal world, those individuals who have the opportunity to intern at HP will transition smoothly in to a graduate position and then on to full time employment.

HP strives to ensure that the intern experience is as rich and fulfilling as possible. In numerous countries around the world, HP’s interns take part in various activities such as project fairs, networking events and intern days.

On May 30, 2014 HP interns in India experienced “Alohomora 2014” – the annual HP Intern Day. Over sixty five interns from across multiple HP businesses attended - including; Global Analytics, R&D, Enterprise Services (ES) ITO Delivery, ES Applications & Business Services, Financial Solutions and Internal Audit.

The purpose of the day is to bring the interns together to network, learn more about ongoing career opportunities, and hear from different parts of the HP business. The event has gone from strength to strength in India, growing year on year. This year the event was spilt in to two distinct parts; learning in the morning and fun in the afternoon.

The day began with Rahul Nandi, HP India’s Talent Acquisition Manager sharing his favorite mantras and tips for a better and more successful corporate life.

Chirag Bhayani, HP India’s University Program Manager, gave an overview of the program and educated the interns on the usage of HP Social Media channels as a part of our overall Digital Media strategy.

HP Business Leaders; Varadarajan Krishnan, Srikanth Ghanta and Ashok Waran shared their journey within the organization. The open Q&A session with these leaders was enlightening for many of the interns and gave them a better understanding of how to best position themselves for a long term career with HP.

The last part of the morning learning session began with a panel discussion with current full time employees who began their careers with HP as interns. This was followed by current interns sharing their own internship experiences. Enthusiasm was high throughout.

In the afternoon, Interns were engaged in a “Social Impact” activity. Eighty-three children from the Grace Fellowship Charitable Trust Children’s home were invited to be part of a painting competition. Interns joined along with these kids during the activity that all found enjoyable. The children had a chance to have some fun away from their usual environment.

Some great feedback was received about the activity from the interns and they felt very engaged and proud of being a part of an organization like HP.

The Alohomora 2014 event was closed by recognizing the winners of the painting competition and the case study competition which was organized as a preamble to this event.

The HP India team is looking forward to next year’s event already.
