IDC Names HP a Leader in MFPs

Recently, IDC named HP a leader in the IDC MarketScape: U.S. Smart Multifunction Peripheral 2013 Vendor Assessment – showcasing the MFP innovations that we have brought to customers this year.

HP has been a leader in the printing industry for nearly 30 years, always looking for new innovations and ways to push the envelope of printing technology. Recently, I chronicled the journey from HP’s first shipped LaserJet printer in 1984, to its 100 millionth in 2006, and to the 200 millionth just a few months ago.

As customer needs and demands have evolved, HP has continued to redefine the way businesses print, taking a simple, single-function device and transforming it into a smart, web-connected multifunction printer (MFP).

Some of the most recent customer-centered innovations include:

  • Touch-to-Print through two Mobile Print Accessories and four new Enterprise MFPs with wireless direct and near field communication (NFC) capabilities – giving users the ability for simple, secure, mobile printing by simply touching their smartphone or tablet to the MFP.
  • Cloud-based document management capabilities with HP Flow CM Professional, delivering a complete set of tools for document capture, storage, search, retrieval, sharing and more, making the MFP both an on-ramp to and an off-ramp from the cloud.
  • Security solutions to help enhance device security with secure authentication, secure pull printing, intelligent management, and job accounting through HP Access Control.

This breadth of choice and technology leadership has not gone unnoticed. In fact, in the “IDC MarketScape: U.S. Smart Multifunction Peripheral 2013 Vendor Assessment" (IDC #245058, December 2013) –  an assessment of numerous vendors participating in the U.S. smart MFP market based on current strategies and capabilities – HP was named as the “industry’s de facto market standard for laser printing.”

HP delivers strong value to its customers, and its “brand, marketing and IT reputation is second to none,” according to the IDC MarketScape. This year, HP is committed to continuing its business printing momentum to bring customers the technologies that directly address their most critical needs.
